ADENOPHORA

Adenophora.-SMALL

Adenophora came into Australia sometime last century as seed called S.pulchella but I think it is always given its correct name nowadays. It comes from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Adenophora has bright scarlet flowers mainly in autumn and winter and pleasant foliage.

Growth is a collection of canes 2 – 2.5m making up a shrub.

Undemanding plant in sun or shade, a little frost tender.

Propagation by cuttings, I don’t think I have noticed seed in my southern area. A couple of stems could be cut to the ground from time to time to keep the plant fresh.

The nearest similar salvia would be disjuncta.
