GRAVIDA

Gravida-copy

I have got more fond of this plant as the years go by, but maybe I will tire of it because it is rather a strong grower. This plant was brought into Australia for me this century through quarantine.

The large cerise winter flowers are quite stunning along with purplish tinted foliage.    They have large sprays of flowers  which hang down rather attractively.   I have some outside my kitchen window which are very pretty in winter.

Grows maybe over 2m in sun or part shade.

Grows readily from cuttings.

Personally I don’t like the smell of the foliage but it is a good way to identify it.

Sprucei and curtiflora are two other pink winter flowerers.
