Munzii is a worthwhile Californian native shrub which is easy to grow. It prefers full sun and not too much water and wouldn’t be thrilled about humidity. Munzii will take about a -7C frost.
Munzii could be one of the smaller growing of the similar Californians, clevelandii, mellifera and leucophylla. It will be about a metre high and maybe wide. It gets a woody stem fairly rapidly so early pruning in its life – pinching out – is a good idea. Munzii is spring flowering with whorls of mauve flowers.
Oddly munzii doesn’t get much of a mention in Betsy Clebsch’s New Book of Salvias but does get a page in Christian Froissart’s book on salvias (Sauges) which is written in French.
